Ariana interpreted this year's subject 'Camp: Notes on Fashion' as exaggerated Americana – and that she did.
The competitive show jumper teamed up with celebrity stylist Erin Walsh and fashion designer Lela Rose to create the perfect look.
'Over-the-top opulence is so on theme for tonight and I'm usually fairly understated,' she said.
'I don't always wear a lot of jewelry, but the pieces from Bucherer are so beautiful and they have so much splendor, that I think tonight's the night to pull out all the stops and to go for it,' the beauty shared while getting ready for the big event at The Mark hotel.

'It was a quote on the inscription page of my great grandmother's biography from a neighbor to a neighbor. It's a nod to her and for my love of horses.'
The gloves were tailored to fit Ariana's arms perfectly and the dedication was embroidered in a script of her liking.

Decisions, decisions: 'Handbags are always the last thing to decide,' said Ariana's stylist Erin
Ariana's black and white gown was created with a luxe silk jacquard featuring a raised dot throughout, a fabric that Lela had experimented with for her fall ready to wear collection.
Her initial fitting took place at Lela Rose's studio, located in midtown Manhattan.
'We had pulled a few different options, but for the idea and theme, I just thought this material would push it to a couture level, shared the designer.
While it was her first time trying the gown on, it fit her form beautifully. 'We just need to fit the top better,' said Lela (which actually consists of completely redoing it).
'In addition to sewing all the pearls on my hand, which will take about 30-40 hours and many of us working on it.'
Campy: The design team decided to add a giant train to create a moment of drama, while keeping with the original classic point of reference: Jackie Kennedy
'There's going to be people at the Met that go there in a big time way,' shared Erin (whose client roster includes Cobie Smulders, Adriana Lima, Kate Mara and Thandie Newton).
'But Ariana is regal and composed, and I think the idea wasn't for her to be the most campy person there but to make something that had a nod to camp, but that still felt very classic, refined, timeless and elegant.'
In exploring that with Lela, they decided to add a giant train to create a moment of drama, while keeping with the original classic point of reference: Jackie Kennedy.
The gown's dramatic train is approximately four yards in length, it's made up of the same silk jacquard fabric as the rest of the garment and bonded to satin so that it lays flat and looks good from every angle.

'I think the idea was to explore the theme in a very wink-nod sort of way not in a blatant-obvious sort of way, to really just create a timeless beautiful moment,' shared Erin.
'I love that with this color combination (or should I say non-color combination) and the drama of it, it will be a specific moment but it also could be any moment in time.
'It still feels very modern, and to me that's always the interesting juxtaposition – the timeless with the modern.'
The first thing that came to mind when Ariana saw her custom gown was 'perfect.'
'I felt immediately that it was me,' said the competitive show horse jumper. 'It was my vision and my style.'
