A three-year-old girl has died after a 'freak accident' at home according to her heartbroken mother.

Jessica Azadi suffered a serious injury at her home, police have said. 

According to The Sun, a neighbour reported that Jessica 'pulled the fireplace' and a grate fell on top of her. 

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: 'She has pulled the fireplace and it fell on top of her. The family is heartbroken.'

Tributes have been paid to the young girl, who died in hospital on Friday afternoon.

Her mother, Natasha Azadi, posted: 'I don't even know how to begin to explain what me and Ben are feeling, our world has gone to the sky in a total freak accident. that no matter how I play it in my head cannot be changed.

She later posted a series of photographs with her young daughter and a message saying her 'whole world had ended'.

She said: 'You were my miracle baby, my life, my hope, my strength, my shadow, my whole heart.

'I would give anything to hold you in my arms to turn over in bed and you snuggle in and say 'I love you mummy' to see those big brown eyes gaze at me and see your infectious smile and hear your crazy giggle.

On the Cleveland Police facebook page, the child's uncle Craig Mount said: 'God bless sleep tight Jess fly high with the Angels baby girl always in our thought uncle Craig auntie Kay and kids.' 

Cleveland Police said they were not treating the incident in Thornaby, Teesside, at 3.30pm on Friday as suspicious.

The girl was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, by ambulance but died on arrival, a force spokeswoman said.

The force said: 'The child's death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will now be prepared for the Coroner.

'Our thoughts are with all family, friends and neighbours at this very sad time.'

The Great North Air Ambulance Service sent a helicopter to the scene but the girl was not flown to hospital.
