Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets Join Solid Sound Festival Lineup A Festive Musical Journey
Although Nick Lowe and the Los Straitjackets are best known for their unique blend of pop and rock music, they share our thoughts as we approach the holidays each year.
“Winter Wonderland” by Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets from their holiday album “Quality Street” is here.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets have been added to the lineup for Solid Sound, Wilco’s June 28-30 festival at MASS MoCA.
The lineup announced also includes singer-songwriter Iris DeMent, the band Dry Cleaning, the alternative rock act Wednesday, and independent rockers Ratboys.
Held every other year, Solid Sound is a mainstay of the Berkshire Mountains’ summer music scene, consistently drawing a sellout crowd.
The 2024 lineup for Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival has been revealed. The festival is scheduled for June 28–30 at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts.
Like previous festivals, Solid Sound would not exist if Wilco’s multiple headline sets were not accompanied by each band member’s numerous side projects and solo endeavors.
A live presentation of Hrishikesh Hirway’s critically acclaimed Song Exploder podcast, John Hodgman’s Comedy Cabaret, live painting by the legendary Steve Keene, and an assortment of Substack Pop-Up Interviews are just a few of the exceptionally distinctive non-musical programming that Solid Sound continues to offer at any festival.
Solid Sound seeks to excite the inquisitive in the remarkable setting of MASS MoCA with a variety of artists, including rock, jazz, indie, and experimental musicians, as well as screenprinting demonstrations, pop-up record stores, children’s programming, and more.
Alongside well-liked long-term loan exhibitions from Louise Bourgeois, James Turrell, Sol Lewitt, and others, the museum’s expansive galleries will host temporary exhibitions by Laurie Anderson, Osman Khan, Elle Pérez, Amy Yoes, and Jason Moran.
From School to Stardom
Nicholas Drain Lowe is an English musician, producer, and singer-songwriter who was born on March 24, 1949. Known for her work in new wave, power pop, and pub rock, Lowe has released several well-received solo albums.
Lowe plays the piano, harmonica, bass guitar, and guitar in addition to singing. Lowe went to the Suffolk-based independent Woodbridge School.
In 1967, he and his school friend Brinsley Schwarz formed the band Kippington Lodge, marking the start of his musical career.
They put out a couple of singles on the Parlophone label Kippington Lodge before changing their name to Brinsley Schwarz in late 1969 and starting to play blues-rock and country music.
The band’s management company, Famepushers Ltd., launched them with a gig at New York’s Fillmore East. To document the event, Famepushers flew over a planeload of British journalists.
However, the stunt backfired, making Brinsley Schwarz a laughingstock until they gained recognition on the London pub rock circuit.
