Shock As Woman Finds Wild Animal Hiding In Her Christmas Tree
The festive season is here and while many of us will be decking out our trees over the next few days, it's safe to say that no one is expecting to find a live animal sitting inside their Christmas centerpiece.
However, one woman—to the amusement of TikTokers—has come home to the sight of a possum nesting inside her Christmas tree.
A social media video, that has been viewed by more than 4.5 million users since it was first shared to TikTok on November 29, captured the small animal and the woman's surprise at finding him.
"I am literally freakin' out right now, I have no idea how this possum got inside my house," the woman, who goes by @BrettBrat359 on TikTok, could be heard saying in the video.
Newsweek reached out to @BrettBrat359 for comment via email for further information.
Audiences were shown the possum squatting at the back of the tree, and looking surprisingly comfortable and calm. The woman is based in Texas, where plenty of possums reside. Galveston's official website shares that possums tend to be docile and gentle creatures, that don't pose any harm to the civilian population.
"In general, [possums] are docile, non-aggressive animals and will not attack your pets. They prefer to avoid confrontations. If escape is not possible then the threatened opossum may "play 'possum", show its teeth, or bite in self-defense, as any animal would," Galveston's district government writes on its website.
The post had been captioned: "I don't understand how this thing is in my house right now".
What Do The Comments Say?
Since it was shared to the social media platform on November 29 by @BrettBrat359, the TikTok post has been liked by over 470,000 users and commented on more than 14,000 times.
"On the first day of Christmas a possum came to me," commented one user.
A different user wrote: "Me not seeing the possum at first and thinking you were freaking out because of the one random Jack ornament that's different than the others".
"Imagine sitting on the couch and you look over and a possum is in your Christmas tree staring at you," another user added.
